Jazmin Saraï is an artisan line of small-batch, unisex perfumes & scented products, handmade in Los Angeles, previously in Montreal. Jazmin Saraï embodies the union between the queen of white flowers, Jasmine, and the king of musical genres Jazz, wafting through the inner walls of a Saraï; a palace.
Made for all, without gender in mind. With more of a focus on an immersive experience, true storytelling, ethical practices, and quality ingredients with no preservatives. Each perfume and scented product is hand-crafted in small batches to ensure sustainability and is created with the highest quality ingredients, always conscious of sourcing as many biodegradable materials as possible, from their place of origin, from ethical & quality suppliers.
Jazmin Saraï’s founder and perfumer Dana El Masri (pronounced DAA-NA ELMAS-REE) experiences the world through the multi-sensory.
A trained perfumer, interdisciplinary artist, educator, and storyteller. Her depth and perception are inspired by our current contemporary landscape as well as her deeply rooted Egyptian/Lebanese cultures. She sees scent as a gateway to raise awareness of unappreciated and under-represented cultures of the past, present and future.
Dana believes the role of the artist is to reflect the times. She continually uses Jazmin Saraï as a platform to empower her community through representation and collaboration, while also educating her audience on issues of culture and identity.
Her ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between scent, sound, and culture. She believes this will allow more people to gain unique and memorable olfactory experiences that elicit raw emotions from deep within and trigger deeper connections to the world around them.
"Scent and sound, invisible mediums, when combined, offer a glimpse into the world of synesthesia, highlighting the power of music and the effect of the sense of smell on our subconscious." - Dana El Masri
Featured Fragrances
MA’RÉ • Inspired by Fairuz’s 'Shayef El Bahr' شايف البحر شو كبير - ‘See the Sea’ which is part of the Tarab duo celebrating Arabic music and icons of the Arab world. A burst of lemon; a scent synonymous with Lebanon. The wind carries the scent of the sea, merging with the fresh scent of green nature and the vastness of the mountains. Juxtaposed with woods and a faint Arak* accord to create a ‘turquoise’ color. Fairuz’s legendary voice echoes in the hearts and minds of the Lebanese to this day. The song inspiration for this fragrance can be found on Jazmin Saraï’s website, or on any music streaming service.
NAR • Inspired by Abdel Halim Hafez’s ‘Hobbak Nar’ حبك نار- ‘Your Love is Fire’ Nar is the second part of the Tarab duo celebrating Arabic music and icons of the Arab world. Abdel Halim Hafez gets up on stage and asks: “What does the couple want to hear?” “ حبك نارYour Love is Fire”, they answer enthusiastically, in unison. Embers of love and longing. Love burns, and ignites, its flame forging two into one. Made with just five ingredients, this perfume tells the tale of a lovers’ wedding night and their inextinguishable love. Nostalgic and linear, it evokes repetition and the sweet, smoky song that Hafez sings. The song inspiration for this fragrance can be found on Jazmin Saraï’s website, or on any music streaming service.
NEON GRAFFITI • Inspired by M.I.A’s song ‘Sunshowers,’ Neon Grafitti is a zesty citrus mix blended with a lush, green leaf accord, with bright cardamom and invigorating mint. The heart is a field of assorted flowers: Indian jasmine, mimosa, with a faint sunflower accord, rounded out with juicy mangoes. The base is an urban jungle of gritty cedarwood, sharp incense, and metallic ambrox. The song inspiration for this fragrance can be found on Jazmin Saraï’s website, or on any music streaming service. As a disclaimer, M.I.A. does not endorse this or any other product made by Jazmin Saraï. .
OTIS & ME • Inspired by the Otis Redding song ‘Cigarettes and Coffee,’ Otis & Me envelops the wearer in a cloud- a cup of coffee in your hand. He speaks, gritty voice and all… The scent of the coffee takes over, swirls of smoke hovering above and you are completely enamored by conversation. Otis speaks to you in rhythms. He’s young, ambitious, and full of dreams. So are you. The song inspiration for this fragrance can be found on Jazmin Saraï’s website, or on any music streaming service. Here at Fumerie Parfumerie, we are first and foremost perfume lovers. The goal of this venture has always been twofold: to bring the finest niche and independent fragrances to the Portland area and to engage the fragrance community and create a space for people to come together. In an effort to serve the greater community of enthusiasts and up-and-coming makers, we are excited to announce that starting January 2024 we will be featuring a month-long spotlight on an independent perfumer who will be exhibited in our shop for the duration of said month.
We believe the growing community of self-taught and newer perfumers deserve access to spaces wherein their art can be shown and appreciated without fully committing to the rather rigorous systems of wholesale. We also believe our community of fragrance lovers want and deserve a chance to enjoy these very hard-to-find pieces of art. Often, local and micro-perfume brands are limited to working with stockists in their immediate area or are forced to compete with the algorithmic competition of social media. We are proud to offer our curative services to find these makers and to make available a public form for brands to apply to participate in this exciting new program.
If you are a perfumer or brand owner interested in obtaining a month-long Maker’s Residency here in our shop simply fill out the form below and we will follow up shortly with an introduction, any questions we may have, and next steps. If you have questions you would like answered before applying, please feel free to email info@fumerie.com.
