Fumerie is proud to host Nose of Gatsby as our seventh Maker’s Residency artist and brand! Nose of Gatsby is a Seattle-based perfumery founded by Gatsby Yeh. Gatsby is a self-taught perfumer who focuses on creating scents that embody imaginary worlds, memories, and rich stories.

Every bottle of fragrance from Nose of Gatsby is made meticulously with the finest ingredients and love. Nose of Gatsby centers on the belief that scent is a piece of wearable art and an invisible garment. Bottled by hand, one bottle at a time. Let the fragrances take you to travel. 

Gatsby is a self-taught perfumer based in Seattle. Music, art, good design, nature, and all sorts of wonderful things are his inspirations for fragrances. He crafts perfumes as the platform to share his vision of the world, creating scents based on the above mentioned amazing things and with his rich background and life experiences.

Gatsby studied graphic design, and fine art in San Francisco. While at school, he set aside time to create and study perfumery. After 10 years of making fragrances, he established Nose of Gatsby in 2023. To him, composing a fragrance is similar to how a painter paints a picture or how a musician writes a song.

BURNING PIANO was inspired by a never awakened artist's dream. It smells bold, artistic, earthy, leathery, and smokey.

“When I had my first coffee as a kid, I wouldn't say I liked it at all. I was wondering who enjoys this type of drink that tastes medicinal, bitter, and sour. After I became older, I started to drink and appreciate the flavor of coffee. I realized that coffee tastes the same, but I had changed. I learned life is not just full of sweetness and joy, but bitterness.”

FANTÔME • Sandalwood · Black Pepper · Petitgrain · Mist · Fog · Shadow

FANTÔME is a woody, green, fresh unisex perfume suitable for all occasions, especially for adventurers. FANTÔME pays homage to consciousness and unconsciousness. Inspired by a peaceful misty dark forest to help us explore insecurity and self.

NAIVE • Black Tea · Incense · Rose · Tobacco · Fig · Sandalwood · Milk

The fresh floral scent opens the journey of NAIVE and the youthful juice figs aroma quickly follows up. Fresh hay-like tobacco comes soon after with incense and sandalwood in the base note. During the entire trip to NAIVE, the clean and rich Taiwanese black tea aroma will be noticed.

TRANQUIL • Pink Grapefruit · Bergamot · Orange Blossom · Green Accord

TRANQUIL was inspired by a peaceful moment when sitting down under a lemon tree in the summertime on Sicily Island. It was a very beautiful warm summer day.

Submissions for our 2025 Calendar will close on Dec. 8 2024. All applications and samples must be received by this date for this calendar, but submissions can be made any time for future consideration.

Here at Fumerie Parfumerie, we are first and foremost perfume lovers. The goal of this venture has always been twofold: to bring the finest niche and independent fragrances to the Portland area and to engage the fragrance community and create a space for people to come together. In an effort to serve the greater community of enthusiasts and up-and-coming makers, we are excited to announce that starting January 2024 we will be featuring a month-long spotlight on an independent perfumer who will be exhibited in our shop for the duration of said month.

We believe the growing community of self-taught and newer perfumers deserve access to spaces wherein their art can be shown and appreciated without fully committing to the rather rigorous systems of wholesale. We also believe our community of fragrance lovers want and deserve a chance to enjoy these very hard-to-find pieces of art, even if they do not necessarily fit the curation of our regular offerings. Often, local and micro-perfume brands are limited to working with stockists in their immediate area or are forced to compete with the algorithmic hardships of social media. We are proud to offer our curative services to find these makers and to make available a public form for brands to apply to participate in this exciting new program.
