Andy Tauer began his career as a chemist; however, a series of serendipitous events involving Mandy Aftel's Essence and Alchemy: A Natural History of Perfume and a vacation to Africa ignited an interest in perfumery. Tauer began composing his own fragrances which were sold quietly at an independent bookstore in Zurich until perfume critic Luca Turin awarded his L'Air du Désert Marocain a five-star review in Perfumes: The A-Z Guide. He has since become one of the most celebrated and successful independent perfumers in the world.
