Description Expectation can lead to disappointment and expectations have, perhaps, never been higher for Papillon. Salome was an absolute triumph, topping many critics' year-end lists. Naturally, all eyes have been on Papillon with perfume lovers eagerly awaiting the release of Liz Moores' newest fragrance, Dryad. Now that it has finally arrived, we are happy to report that Dryad is another instant classic and a fitting follow-up to Salome. The fragrance opens with a bitter green verdancy flanked by effervescent citrus. Fans of midcentury green chypres will find a lot to love here—the opening is redolent of Yves Saint Laurent's 1964 release Y. The depth and richness of Dryad are utterly beyond compare, so much so that it might easily be mistaken for a vintage composition from one of the great French houses. The fragrance is at once mossy, leathery and animalic, centered around a lovely bouquet of white flowers and narcissus. The swirling tapestry of notes created a kaleidoscopic effect—at one moment the leathery facets shine through only to be eclipsed by moss or resins or floral notes. We really cannot say enough good things about this fragrance, but it truly must be experienced to be appreciated. This is one of those fragrances that everyone should own and for those of you looking for a reference chypre to add to your collection, look no further. At this point, I think it's fair to say that Papillon has established itself as one of the giants of modern perfumery. Perfumer Liz Moores keeps raising the bar and completely blowing us away with each new release—we can't wait to see what she'll do next!
