Description Akkad finds Lubin turning to ancient Sumeria for inspiration focusing on Sargon of Akkad, the emperor known for his conquest of much of Mesopotamia. The fragrance opens with a burst of mandarin and spices wrapped in a veil of amber. The copy from Lubin specifically references the central role of amber in the composition. To fully appreciate this fragrance as an amber-centric composition, one must first understand what amber means as a perfumery term. Amber suffers from differing meanings more than any other perfumery term as the term is alternately used to refer to ambergris—an excretion produced by sperm whales—and amber—a combination of vanilla and aromatic resins. The amber here is, obviously, the latter and over the course of Akkad amber is rendered using a central vanilla note and an assortment of elemi, styrax and cistus labdanum. While amber is the central element of Akkad, frankincense is the undisputed star of the composition. The note is rendered beautifully, further augmented by resinous notes of elemi and styrax. Patchouli and cistus labdanum become increasingly more apparent as the fragrance dries down (although the patchouli note is quite noticeable from the instant Akkad is applied.
